ECS-LAC - Tramway Pantograph Monitoring System
ECS-LAC is a UNIQUE solution capable of detecting and authenticating streetcars. It analyzes pantograph and carbon strip integrity in real time, and generates a report only when an anomaly is detected, avoiding unnecessary data.
ECS-LAC, Yumain's DSP with on-board AI for monitoring and analyzing pantograph status
The numerous checks required before a pantograph can be put into service in the urban environment, and the impact of damage on the operator, have led to the need for a device that can detect pantograph damage as early as possible.
Yumain's ECS-LAC solution is an innovative pantograph monitoring device that addresses several key issues linked to pantograph maintenance in the urban sector. It is very compact and can be installed on a dedicated gantry, requiring only a connection to the electrical network to operate. What's more, the ECS-LAC is able, via AI, to detect the ID of the tramway being analyzed, making it possible both to track its progress and to avoid having to carry out these searches by hand once an anomaly is detected.
Only useful information in one place: ECS-View
ECS-LAC provides essential support to operators and maintenance managers faced with voluminous data management in their CMMS software, thanks to the use of on-board AI, which retrieves only useful information and therefore facilitates data analysis by creating a targeted, easily exploitable spectrum of data.
What's more, all retrieved data is stored and archived in an easy-to-access and easy-to-use tool, ECS-View, making it possible to centralize data for efficient consultation.

Reduced costs
The ECS-LAC is the key for operators and maintenance managers who wish to multiply control points, thanks to its considerably lower cost than alternatives on the market, enabling them to create a larger control network, while also ensuring that anomalies are tracked over time and on the move.
Instant, early detection of anomalies
ECS-LAC is also an essential support for operators and maintenance managers wishing to keep their systems in optimum operating condition, thanks to its ability to anticipate unforeseen incidents through early, real-time detection of anomalies, enabling proactive management of interventions to ensure trouble-free operation.
ECS-LAC, with the AI embedded in its sensor, brings a wealth of benefits
Compact, self-contained product with quick and easy commissioning
Operates on streetcars in service, but also at depot entrances and exits, so there's no need for routine manual inspections
A solution at a lower cost than other solutions, allowing the multiplication of control points on the rail network
Only useful information with detailed reports. All centralized in an easy-to-use and efficient tool, ECS View.

Find out more about this innovative solution
To detect the non-conformity of a pantograph (raised or not) on a train running under a sensor, the system will rely on a combination of image analysis and on-board algorithms based on artificial intelligence.
L’arrivée du train sera identifié soit par une analyse d’image, soit par un capteur externe (le dispositif autorise 1 entrée par contact sec).
Train identification can be performed either by:
- Reconciliation of the time-stamped event with the operator's train schedule database
- Locating and reading the train identification plate (if located on the front panel)
- Any other signal (radio) to authenticate the train
The location and analysis of all pantographs (deployed or not) present on the railcars is fully automatic and in real time (< 5 minutes). If an anomaly is identified, an alarm is immediately generated:
- dry contact (2 outputs) to power a local PLC.
- a time-stamped email with photos of defects
- a complete message via FTP and Ethernet or wifi connection.
This information can also be stored and time-stamped for statistical purposes, as well as to supply the QSE manager with useful indicators.
Thanks to its fanless design, this solution requires no maintenance.
Installation on a mast, on a wall or on track gantries are the most common solutions.
This device includes all the elements required for its operation and installation: an "Edge Computing" solution. In its basic version, it requires only an external power supply + connection to a 4G modem. A local connection to a customer's processing unit is also possible.
In view of the various possible installation configurations, the devices can be powered in several ways:
- By permanent power supply (240 VAC)
- Via DC power supply
- By solar panel
The sensor is designed for outdoor use (IP 57)
Night-time use of the device is currently only possible with the basic offer.
